Judging was done by Pulitzer Prize-winning photojournalist Barbara Davidson, who said, "The photographer turned this incredible sunset into an impactful photograph by carefully silhouetting beachgoers against the sky and water and by incorporating the rocky foreground to create a multi-dimensional photograph. This image inspires us to sit with it and absorb all the beauty it offers."
